Midget AAA team changes nicknames
Richardson to coach Patriotes-cum-Grenadiers 0
Bruce Richardson is the Midget AAA Patriotes' new head coach.
Bruce Richardson is the new head coach of the Chateauguay Patriotes Midget AAA hockey club. He replaces François Lacombe who resigned after leading his team to the Dodge Cup last spring.
Richardson has an impressive resumé as he has coached several professional teams, both in North America and in Europe, where he often took on double duty as a player-coach. The rest of his coaching staff will be named shortly.
Richardson will work hand in hand with new general manager Stéphane Beaudin, who replaces Benoit Perron in that capacity. Perron remains on board as governor and as assistant to team president Michel Parent.
In related news, the Patriotes will no longer be known as the Patriotes. From now on, they will be the Grenadiers, using the same name as sports teams at École Sécondaire LPP in Chateauguay.
The reason for that is that the team's French players will be enrolled at LPP from now on instead of École des Patriotes in Beauharnois. Since LPP is located right beside the Chateauguay Multisports Centre, it will provide easier access. But, according to Perron, anglophone players will continue to attend Howard S. Billings Regional High School.
According to a press release emailed to Le Soleil last Tuesday, "team management thanks all parties with École des Patriotes for their professionalism and their support to our young hockey players during the past six years. But, from now on, the Chateauguay Midget AAA hockey club will wear the colours and logo of the LPP sports teams who are named the Grenadiers."
The club's new sweaters will be unveiled at the start of the season.
